The Strange Woman

Thought For Today - February 20
The Strange Woman

By: Robert A. Searles

As well as warning us to beware of the folly of the lust of the flesh as it pertains to falling into the sin of adultery, the mention of the strange woman in scripture typifies , and speaks of anything that would draw us away from God. Adultery in scripture also has a twofold meaning, in that, not only does it pertain to the actual act of physical adultery, but , it also typifies and speaks of the act of turning away from our first love, who, for the Christian and child of God, is our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

.
The command given to us that we should not commit adultery is a twofold command to warn us not to leave our physical mates for another, but, also , it is a warning to the bride of Christ for us not to become involved in any affair that would constitute our committing spiritual adultery against our first love. So, the mention of the strange woman in the scriptures speaks of any thing, or any one, that would draw us away from God, and his perfect will for us

Speaking of the strange woman, Proverbs 5: 4 says: "her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two edged sword."

What are the results of yielding to those things that draw us away from God?
When we are drawn away from God and commit adultery with other Gods, we are cast about by every wind or doctrine. We are like the chaff that is blown about by the wind, according to Proverbs 5:6 - an unstable life without foundation where it says: "Lest thou shouldest ponder the paths of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them".

What are some of the strange women in our lives with whom we commit adultery? Could it be sin that draws us out of fellowship with God? Could it be a grievance of the Holy Spirit because of something that we have not made right, perhaps a broken promise, or a broken vow? Could it be that there is some person, husband, wife, son or daughter, mother, father , or friend, that we desire their admiration, respect, and esteem so much that we would turn aside from God for them? Is the strange woman in our lives our material possessions, our house, our car, our business, bank accounts, our job? Is it our education? Is it our standing in the community?

Whatever it is that draws us away from God and causes us not to put God at the very pinnacle of our lives, and the seat of our conscious worship, is nothing but an adulterous whore, and we are warned to seek wisdom that we may be kept away from the strange woman which flattereth with her words.

Following the strange woman means ultimate destruction. God admonishes us not to be a wanderer away from God. Be true to your first love. Be true to the wife of your youth. Bride of Christ, be true to the one who has bought you and married you.

"Thou shalt have no other Gods before thee. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. So shalt thou keep his commandments and live."

The God Fearing Family

The God Fearing Family

Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. 2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. 3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. 4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. 5 The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. 6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. Psalm 128 KJV) Bible

Pray for one another

Pray for One Another

To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day>" 2 Timothy 1: 2, 3 (KJV) Bible.

How should we pray for one another? We ought to pray for each other as Paul prayed for Timothy -that God would give to our beloved wife, husband, children, parents, or friends, - grace, mercy, and peace. Grace - the unearned gifts from God, God's unmeritred favor, underserved forgiveness and pardon, unearned, and undeserved eternal, everlasting life, and undeserved provision for their moment by moment needs.

Mercy - God's infinite compassion for us, that is, God not pouring out his wrath and judgments on us when he would be justified and righteous in so doing, also, God's willingness to come more than half way to meet and greet the runaway prodigal and rebellious child, and welcome him back into the family .

Peace - That peace that only God can give to comfort our hearts when we are in the center of his will, a sense of well being, and knowing that everything is all right in our Father's house, and so it is well with us who are his children

May we learn to pray for one another that God would grant his grace, mercy, and peace, even as Paul prayed for Timothy.

Wait on The Lord

Wait On The Lord

By Robert A. Searles

"Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say on the Lord" Psalm 27: 14 (KJV) Bible.

One of the most difficult lessons we must learn as the children of God is to realize that God's ways are not our ways, and God's timing is not our timing. We want things, and we want them now, and even yesteray, if that were possible. God has told us in his word that whatsoever things we have need of, to ask of him and he will provide them for us as he sees fit. God knows and sees the end from the beginning, and the beginning from the end, and he knows what is best for us, and the right time for answering our petitions.

We know that God will not withhold any good thing from us if it will profit us and bring glory to himself. When we have learned this lesson to wait patiently for God to fulfill his purposes in our lives, then we have great peace and contentment in knowing that however long it takes, God will come to our rescue and meet all our needs.

While we wait

While we live and await the sure return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are to: - "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5: 14-24 (KJV) Bible.

Forget Not The Promises of God

Forget Not The Promise of God

By: Robert A. Searles

"My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3: 1-6 (KJV) Bible

We must not ever forget the covenant of our God - that we may walk in the way of good men, and keep; the path of the righteous; that we might enjoy long life and peace. When mercy and truth are written on the table of our heart, we will find favor and understanding in the sight of God and man. When we trust in the Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding, God will lead us in the paths of righteousness.

God Does Not Hold Grudges

"If thou, Lord shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope." Psalm 130: 3,4,5. (KJV) Bible.

Praise God! He does not hold grudges and hold our sins and wrong doing over our heads to condemn us; but he is ever ready to hear our confession and self judgment, and remember our sin no more. If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, otherwise, if this were not the case, who could stand? Who would be able to serve him? Who would be able to preach and to teach? For none is worthy unless he accounts them to be worthy through his grace and mercy and forgiveness, for: "There is none righteous, no, not one for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God". Therefore once having brought our sins before God and claiming the cleansing power of his shed blood, let us go our way rejoicing and sin no more. Each new day he gives us a clean new slate upon which to write the history of our lives. Beginning today , the first day of the rest of our lives, with the strength of our forgiven, redeemed lives and resurrected souls, let us be renewed in our mind and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth today to our place of duty and service and be glad and do all that God wants us to do for him.

God's Promise of Salvation

God's Promise of Salvation

By: Robert A. Searles

Our salvation is completely dependent on the grace of God alone. There is absolutely nothing that we can do to save ourselves. God has promised to save all who will believe and call upon him.

"But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him." Psalm 37: 39-40

"And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." Isaiah 25: 9

His name is Jesus, The Christ, our only Savior.

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins" Matthew 1: 20,21 (KJV) Bible

"...........Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16: 30,31 (KJV) Bible

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Ephesians 2: 8 (KJV) Bible

"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7: 25 (KJV) Bible

This promise is for all who have heard the call of God. If you have never asked God For forgiveness of sins through Christ, and believed and called upon him for your salvation, today is the accepted time. Won't you call unto him today before it is too late?

A Call To Worship - A Song of Praise

A Call To Worship The Lord - A Song of Praise
Psalm 96

O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. 2 Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. 4 For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens. 6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. 8 Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. 9 O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously. 11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness [1] thereof. 12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice 13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth. -KJV Bible

Once I Was Lost

Once I Was Lost

By: Robert A. Searles

"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins, Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2: 1-10 (KJV) Bible
Once I was lost, but now I am found; once I was blind, but now I can see; Once I was a slave of Satan, but now I am a willing servant of Christ; once I had nothing that would endure, Now I am a joint heir witrh Christ to forever sit with him in heavenly places and enjoy his wealth and the fatness of his house forever. All by grace through faith, not of works that I should boast, but by his mercy he saved me.

Thank you Lord!

God's Promise of Love

God's Promise of Love

By: Robert A. Searles

God has told his people that he loves us with an everlasting love, and has promised us that his loving kindness shall never depart from us, nor his peace be removed. We are told that we are of more value than many sparrows; that he knows every thing about us, even the hairs on our head are all numbered, and he has promised to build us up.

"For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee." Isaiah 54:10 (KJV) Bible

. " The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee. Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry." Jeremiah 31. 3 (KJV) Bible.

Because of his great love for us, he has drawn us to himself so that we may know him and receive from him all his benefits. He proved his love for us when he gave his only begotten son to die for us.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3: 16 (KJV)

"As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." John 15: 9,10 (KJV) Bible

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." John 15: 13,14 (KJV) Bible

" In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him." 1 John 4:9 (KJV) Bible

God's Promise of Our Growth in Him

God's Promise of our Growth in Him

By: Robert A. Searles

The Lord is constantly looking down from heaven upon the human race to see if there are any or who will seek him and glorify him, and he has promised to those who do seek him and understand him that they will flourish and prosper.

"The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God." Psalm 14: (KJV) Bible

"The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon." Psalm 92: 12 (KJV) bible

When men and women, boys and girls, truly seek the Lord to understand his ways, and look upon his face, as it were, we are changed, and the more we steadfastly gaze upon him, we are changed into his image and likeness.

"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3: 18 (KJV) Bible

When we keep our eyes fixed upon the lord, he teaches us as his dear children, and we learn the truth, and grow and become mature adults, and are able to speak the truth in love to others so that they may come to know him and be saved.

"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" Ephesians 4:14-15 (KJV) Bible

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" Philippians 1:6 (KJV) Bible

God's Promise of Joy

God's Promise of Joy

By: Robert A. Searles

"Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Psalm 16: 11 (KJV) Bible

True joy an happiness can only be found in the presence of the Lord.

"Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:" 1 Peter 1:8 (KJV) Bible

Christ shows us the paths to righteous living. That is where he is, and when we walk on that path with him, we will find fullness of joy.

"O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." Psalm 90: 14 (KJV) Bible

When we recognise that God's mercy is being poured out upon us each and every day, it satisfies our needs and we can be glad and rejoicing every day.

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." John 15: 10-11 (KJV) Bible

When we keep Christ's commandments and abide in him, we will have a song of joy in our heart always and forever.
Though at times sorrows come, yet we have God's promise that all our sorrows will eventually be turned into joy.

"And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you." John 16: 22 (KJV) Bible

"Mourning may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

God's Promise of Everlasting Life

God's promise of everlasting life

By: Robert A. Searles

" For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me." Job
19: 25-27

God has promised everlasting life to all who will believe him. How wonderful if we could all have the sure confidence and assurance that Job of old prophesied. We can if we will confess our sins, accept Christ as our Savior and the only way to God our Father, and place our trust and faith completely in his promises

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 (KJV) Bible

"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40 (KJV) Bible

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." John 10: 28 (KJV) Bible

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Corinthians 15: 51-52 (KJV) Bible

"Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4: 17 (KJV) Bible

If you have not done so already dear reader, won't you claim these promises of God, and have the assurance of Job?

Because He Lives

Because He Lives

In the midst of all his troubles and afflictions, Job could say: "I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall i see God: who I shall see for my self, and mine eye shall behold , and not another; though my reins be consumed within me." Job 19: 25-27 (KJV) Bible.

This kind of assurance and faith would enable anyone to endure the light afflictions of the moment, in light of his immortality promised in the word of God to all who are the redeemed of the Lord. Nothing can hurt, and nothing can destroy that which God has ordained to live forever. Christ our Lord came to earth to save sinners. Death could not hold him. He was the first fruits of all them that sleep.

Through him and by him we have everlasting life. This mortal shall put on immortalithy. This corruptible body shall put on incorruption, and we shall be preserved forever in the presence of our blessed Lord.

Take heart dear Christian friend, some day the clouds will clear away, and the Son of God shall appear. "The dead in Christ shall rise first, and we who are alive and remain on the earth shall be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. So shall we ever be with theLord." 1 Thessalonians 4: 16, 17. (KJV) Bible

Believe it! Receive it! and enjoy it! This is your comfort, your strength, and your joy. That which God has ordained forever cannot be altered by men, nor time, nor circumstance.

God's Promise of Peace

God's Promise of Peace

By Robert A. Searles

The Lord has promised to strengthen us and to keep us in perfect peace when our heart and mind is fixed and stayed on him. Jesus told us to never allow our heart to be troubled nor be afraid, for the peace that he gives is far better than anything we can get from the world. Because we are justified by God by our faith, we can have perfect peace and harmony with God through the Lord Jesus Christ Christ himself is our peae who has broken down the barrier between us and God the Father.

"The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace." Psalm 29: 11 (KJV) Bible

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26: 3 (KJV) Bible
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14: 27 (KJV) Bible

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5: 1-2 (KJV) Bible

" For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;" Ephesians 2:14 (KJV) Bible

"Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (KJV) Bible

Blessed Is He Whose Sins Are Forgiven!

By: Robert A. Searles

Oh! How blessed is the one whose sins are forgiven, whose iniquities are remembered no more! How it blesses my heart and soul to know that there is forgiveness with God! If God should hold grudges, as it were, and mark our iniquities, who should stand? “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3: 10. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God with the exception of one, and that one person, our blessed Lord and Savior was perfect in all his ways and he who was sinless himself , bore all our sin and shame on the cross when he died for us; but praise God! He rose again the third day, proving that he is God and that God the Father had accepted his sacrifice of himself as the propitiation for all our sins, for as many as will receive it by faith, there is forgiveness with God for all our foolishness when we bow before him, acknowledging our folly and ask for his mercy to be bestowed upon us.
Weary sinner, come to the foot of the cross and see Jesus dying in your place. Let the drops of his blood fall upon you by faith, and realize that divine blood was shed for you, and that because of the price that was paid, you are valuable to God. Then by faith visit the empty tomb and see that it is indeed empty: that he is not here but was raised for our justification, and because he lives, be sure that all of us who have put our trust in him shall live also.
Wandering prodigal, far from home, far from the Father's fellowship which you once knew, come home. There is forgiveness with God. Come back to the fold, come apart from the world. Our father is ready to kill the fatted calf and put a ring on your finger and clothe you with his righteousness. Oh yes! Thank God, there is forgiveness with God.
“If thou Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.” Psalm 130: 3-5.

Thought For Today - June 12
Thy will be done as it is in Heaven!

Jesus taught us, through his disciples, to pray to God our father, and to say: "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
When we are born again and become the children of God by God's grace, and our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we not only become the children of God, but we also become citizens of Heaven. As citizens of Heaven, we are under the jurisdiction of the king of Heaven. Thus, while we remain on earth, we are , as it were, strangers in a foreign land, subject to, and responsible for keeping the laws of the country of our residence, but as citizens of America, or whatever country we may be citizens of, if we find ourselves in trouble in a foreign country, we have a right to appeal to our home government to assist us in our difficulty.
So it is with our heavenly citizenship: we are told that we sit together in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. We are citizens of Heaven. When we pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we are appealing to our king that all that happens in our lives here on earth would be the same as if we were already at home in Heaven.
When the will of our king of kings and lord of lords is being accomplished in our lives, then, all that transpires in our lives here on earth is the result of his power and authority. "The kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of waters he turneth it wither so ever he will."
Would it be God's will for me to be lost forever in Heaven? Would it be God's will for me to be discouraged if I were in Heaven? Would it be God's will for me to be unhappy if I were already in Heaven? Would it be God's will for me to be sick and poverty stricken if I were in Heaven? I don't know the final answer to all these questions; but I tend to think the answer would be no to all of them. Heaven is a happy, healthy, wealthy, eternal place where God is. I believe that none of these situations can coexist in the presence of God, therefore, If God's will is done in us on earth as it is, or would be if I were already in Heaven, what is the conclusion of the whole matter? What does God desire, and what is his will for us while here on earth?
